- You can also download the all-in-one
'Security Essentials' from Microsoft for free
- Most of the
broadband ISP offer their own free anti-virus, anti-spyware and internet

Check with your ISP if they offer free software
- .Remember
to update and run the programmes regularly on a weekly basis
My
machine is shutting down or freezing when running programmes
- A computer, like any
other electrical device, generates static and attracts dust.
- After a while it is
common for the heat-sink on the processor to become blocked with dust.
- Start up your machine
and enter the setup menu - usually the F2 or DEL key.
- Look for the hardware
monitoring utility and check the temperature of the CPU.
- If it is high - anything
above mid 50's then you need to open the PC. If you don't feel confident
get help.
- TURN the PC OFF and DISCONNECT
from the MAINS.
- Open the computer and
use a soft air-brush or camera cleaning kit to remove the dust.
- Locate the fan
on the CPU and examine the heat sink. If it looks
blocked it probably is so remove the fan - usually 4 screws - and clean
the heatsink.
- Do not remove the
heatsink from the processor.
- Re-fit the fan and try
starting the PC again.
Remember
to back-up your files regularly
